Smith Nation has 25 chickens. We ordered them last April hoping to get some fresh egg's. Guess what? They just started laying 2 weeks ago.

We are getting 6 egg's a day. All that hard work paid off. this is a picture of one of our hen's laying her egg.

Date Night away with a 9 mile hike at Gulf Hagas

My Hubby and I have wanted to hike Gulf Hagas for a long time. We had to do a lot of planning do to that fact that the kids could not come along because it would have been too long of a hike for them. So we set a date and fallowed through. In our original plans we where going to camp. But do to the rain we ended up staying in Dexter at the Brewster Inn. It was a nice inexpensive place to stay. Breakfast was included so that was one less thing we had to worry about in the morning. We still had to drive another hour to get the Katahdin Iron works where Gulf Hagas is located. We hit the trail around 10am and finished it in 6 hours 20 minutes.

We took a nice cold dip in the lower falls of screw Auger after a nice lunch on a Sand Bar below this swimming hole

We took the Head of Gulf Hagas Trail to the Rim Trail. So we saw Screw Auger at end of our hike before we turned around to head back to the car

Most People take the Main trail and if you do you will see Screw Auger falls first.

After the hike to Flying Mountain we went back and had a nice lunch and the kid's took a nap. I have to admit the adults crashed as well. After a quick power nap we hit the gardens in Northeast Harbor. The flowers where amazing. It was a perfect ending to a wonderful vacation.

Asticou Terraces is a stair case that leads you to Thuya Gardens at the top. It's 1/2 mile hike to the top. You can also choose to park at Thuya Garden parking lot but you would miss the view of Northeast Harbor.

Somes Sound Camping Day 2 Hike 1

2nd day of camping we hit another trail Flying Mountain. It was a wonderful 1 1/2 mile hike. It was a perfect day and hike for the kid's. It was not strenuous, the weather was perfect and view was amazing.

Vally cove is located on the other side of the Flying Mountain. The trail run by this great little spot you can take a pit stop. The kid's explored well Dad the pack mule rested his shoulder and enjoyed the view.

1st Camping trip this summer to get closer to Acadia

We went on our first camping trip this year. It was the first time Smith Nation ever camped on the ocean. It was so nice to wake up to the ocean . We wanted to be able to hike and Acadia provides great trails so we camped on Somes Sound

We took a drive to Schoodic peninsula and first stop was Pond Island. We got out and stretched our legs from our long journey.

Papa talked to the kid's about the pea's that grow along the ocean. The kid's enjoyed the talk and the taste test.

We found a couple tiny crabs. The kids giggled as the crab ran over their little hands.

Nana and Haven named their own island. "Haven and Nana's Island". If you go looking for their Island it only appears when the tide is low.

We stopped at Frazer Point and had a nice lunch. Raine and Haven took a little dip in the freezing water as well.

At the end of our adventures Jazz curled up in her car seat with her sun glasses and her Spider Man towel and took a nice nap. All that fresh ocean air did me in too. We all went to bed early that night.

After dinner we decided that it would be a great night for a paddle on the pond. Daddy had a long day at work so he could use a relaxing boat ride. The kids also love to go out and see what we can find out and about.

First find was yummy wild strawberries! Haven was very excited about the find. He ate as many as he could before we continued down to the pond.

We also spotted two beaver out on the water. They would pop their heads up and look at us then slap their tail's down with a big splash and swim away.

Amazing hike around Jordan Pond

Jordan Pond is one of my favorite places in Acadia National park. I go at least once a year. Last time I went Raine and I had a great bike ride on the bike trails and then had lunch at Jordan Pond House.
One of my goal this year was to go around the whole pond. About 2 1/2 years ago was the first time I had ever bean to Jordan pond. I was pregnant with Jazzlynn and Haven was about 1 1/2 so he wasn't really into hiking with his little legs. So we only made it around half way because the dirt walking path turns rocky and then in planks so a stroller wouldn't work on that terrain.

But now that the two little one are great hikers and we have the equipment to carry the kid's on our back. We decided to give it a try. It work out great. Haven hiked about 2 mile's and Jazzlynn about a mile. Then Daddy and I switched. Jazzlynn climbed on my shoulder and Haven climbed in the backpack and we hiked a mile with the kid's on our back. What good workout.

When we first arrived the horse and carriage was there and Jazzlynn was so excited. She always says she wants to ride them.

Took another day trip on Daddy's day off. We packed a lunch and headed out the door. I discovered this hike here. Most the time to find a hike I go to the towns chamber of commerce and they will have them listed or a web site. Other time's I use hiking book. We have also found some great hikes by talking with park rangers. Like the Ice Caves. for example.

This was a very easy hike We went in on the Overlook trail and came out on the Old Quarry Road.

So I woke up on the nice day and wanted to do something with the kid's. Daddy had to work so it was just Mama and Smith Nation. So we headed for a road trip to Fork Knox & Penobscot Narrows Bridge observatory. I admit I am not big on elevators. Let alone high places. But I didn't let the kid's know I was a bit freaked out. We had a blast!

So we hit Fort Knox since one price includes the observatory and the fort. We walked around for about 1 hour. The kid's all got tired quick do to all the stares and exploring.

The day turned out great. We missed Daddy on this trip but I bet if we go to Bucksport again he would love to check it out with us. I am sure the kid's wouldn't mind.

Went on a new hike this year with the two little one. It has to be one of my favorites. It's a mile in and a mile out. You also have to know when the tide is low because you are hiking to a Island you can only get too when the sand bar is exposed.

We hit the Mountain once again. We had such a great hike. No complaints from the kid's. Big Sissy was at school so she missed out on the hike and lunch on the top. I am sure she will hike this trail before the summer is over. Haven hiked whole 2 miles. Very proud of my little man.

April Day Away

Hubby and I went away for a overnight stay away. We took a ride around the area the first night because it was raining. We came upon this really pretty tree in the fog that rolled in with the rain.

This is a picture of the Bed and Breakfast we stayed in. It was so nice and cozy and it had a gas fire place. Also a great Breakfast.

Smith Nation hits the Trails 2010

So we have hit the trail this year. It's been a little while since I have blogged. Gosh! I guess I need to start catching you all up on our trips. I will start with our first hike of the year. This was March 2010. We have been blessed with great weather this year. So we got out hiking early. It was about 1 1/2 mile hike total. The kid's do better and better every year.

July 2009 Girly Girl and Mom hiked Katahdin Stream falls with Tiff (sister in-law) and Nick (soon to be brother in-law). It's a must do hike in Baxter State Park

July 2009 Smith Nation hiked Beech Mt. Very easy hike with kids. The best part is the fire tower on the top the kids can climb up and get a better view.

Smith Nation Hit's New Hampshire once again

August 2009 Smith Nation went NH bound once again . We had so much fun on are 4 day Vacation. We went to a few historical sites. Such as Boise Rock, Indian Head Rock and the Basin. WE also went on some hikes at Flume Gorge, Lost River and surprised the kids with Six Gun City. It's was great family time. We cooked are breakfast and lunches at the hotel and tried different restaurants for Dinner. The weather was great. No rain, Just sun.

Kids under Boise Rock-Thomas Boise, a teamster from Woodstock, New Hampshire, sought shelter under this large boulder when a blizzard in the early 1800's blocked passage for him and his horse on the Notch road. Killing his horse, Boise skinned it and wrapped himself in its hide. Searchers found him under the rock the next day and had to cut away the frozen hide which had saved his life.

Just a little behind on Blogging. We have been so busy. After this trip had to have my Gallbladder out. FUN! It didn't take Smith Nation long to get back out and start hiking and traveling after the surgery. We have done so much this summer. Even if it was raining out most of the time. I will try to catch you all up on our adventures in the next few weeks.

I will start with our trip to Boston in April. So we had a great time in Boston with the whole family. Even Nana and Papa came. We had a great family BBQ and we also went to the Boston Aquarium.

Haven was enjoying play time with his sister and cousins. He will love this picture when he gets a little bit older I am sure.

My Hubby and I went away for a night. Mr. Romance booked a room at a B&B. First time ever staying at one. I have to say they are really cozy and much better then a hotel. We took two nice hikes. One to Bubble Rock and the other hike was along side Sand Beach. We loved both. Bubble Rock had amazing views and I still can't believe that giant boulder has not fallen yet. Even the earth quake didn't take it down. He also picked out a nice Italian restraunt for us. They had amazing food. We shared a Antipasto plate and I had Portabella Mushroom and goat cheese Ravioli

We Are Back on Track

It has been a long, long month. Smith Nation was down and out with rota virus. All but one is lucky to get this awful bug. I am pleased to say that I , Mommy! was the one to stay healthy. The two little ones had it the worst. Jazz had to spend two night in the Hospital to stay hydrated and Haven had to have a IV at the Dr. I have to say I have never felt so helpless. All I could do was cuddle them and say they would feel better soon. They just napped the week away. Daddy was knocked out for about 48 hours and my big girl was down and out for about a week. I just thank God for all the energy he gave me. We are now all better and on track.

Smith Nation was on the trails as soon as they all felt better.
The little man hiked 1 1/2 miles. He didn't complain once. Raine is a super hiker this year. She is power house. Jazz is still the princess and is on Daddy and Mommy's shoulder. We had a great time. It was a new trail for Smith Nation. We will have to do every year now. It was a beautiful hike. We had to climb some cliffs. I bet we looked interesting. Climbing with three kids. Mind you one on our back and the other in our arms. It was great fun.

Yes and we even spotted a total of 4 deer on our way to the trail. Raine was so quick on her feet to snap a picture of last one. You go girl!

Haven's !st Ski Trip

2009 Ski trip was super fun. My two best girlfriends decided to join Smith Nation on a trip to the Mountain. With Haven Daddy and Raine. WE are doing are yearly pose on top of the Mountain. Just a little note. No one got hurt this year.

Haven had a great time on the slopes. He said "It was fun". and he also said "I fell a lot and I couldn't get up". What a trooper.

Crazy for Summer

So Smith Nation is going a little crazy for summer. We have ants in our pants for picnics and long summer hikes and adventures with out all the snow and cold. So we decided to stay at a hotel that had a pool so we could get our practice in for the upcoming beach days. Yes! a bit eager for the beach. Can't you tell by Haven's face. The goggles are to help him have super powers so he could stay strong in the water. It helped him to stay in for a little while. Not real big on the water. Just rocks, sand and digging holes in the dirt.

Jazzlynn loved the water. This is the first time she has been able to get in and kick her little feet. We know she loves bath time but not a bit of fear was shown in this pool. You tough girl.

My Raine is a little fish. she could stay in for hours in a POOL. Only if it's a pool and the a large body of water. She was happy to have a little get away.

I can't believe that my oldest just turned 11. Years are just flying by. She is so tall and mature. She loves to sing and dance. She has a heart of gold. She loves to wear dresses and would wear one every day if she didn't have gym. Even if its 5 below zero she will wear a dress. She is very strong willed and tries hard to be open minded. All theses things are what I love about my baby girl. I pray for another great year of growing and Thank God for her every day. Happy Birthday Beautiful Raine.

Wow! I am 27 Today

So today is my birthday. I am 27 years old. It doesn't feel so bad I guess. My hubby took me away for the day to shop at the outlet stores. It was a 2 1/2 hour drive but we could use the alone time to catch up. If you have kids you know what I am talking about. So he then after shopping took me to a late lunch. IT was yummy. I had a blacken haddock burrito. With homemade salsa. For desert we ordered up some wicked whoopees. AS seen on Oprah and the today show. You can see check them out here Wicked Whoopies. So all and all it was a super day with my super man and Now I am back with my babies the celebrate the rest of the day.

Wheres the train that hit me?

So I had a pleasure of having oral surgery yesterday. It's around 3 am and my mouth is a little swollen and I have awesome breath. I need some more pain medication and I am going to ice my face in a minute.

I am not sure why they just don't keep you sedated for the first day?

The surgery went well. They removed two wisdom teeth and a 6 year molar that was fully impacted under the gum, and that had some how abscessed . Super fun!

I have to say my Dr. visits have some how became my hobby in the last year and I am pretty done with it all. March 0f 2008-December 2008 I visited Dr's, chiropractor, message therapist, two tries at physical therapy, 3 orthopedic and a Osteopath. Now don't forget that procedures I had. 3 MRI's one included injecting of die into the shoulder, 3 x-rays and and 3 injections of cortisone into the shoulder. Nothing was showing on the scans except for swelling so they just kept saying it was my neck. I laughed and cried every time they said it was my neck. Because the funny thing was my shoulder really was the only thing that hurt. NOT MY NECK. But try to tell a smart Dr. that. Believe me I did, and it still took 8 months to figure out why my shoulder hurt. So December 2008 a great Orthopedic preformed arthroscopic shoulder surgery and found the problem. I had a tar on the outer part of my should socket. Every time I would move my arm I was pulling the tar inside my shoulder joint and it would become more inflamed!!!!!! 45 minutes of repair ,2 day's in the hospital for the pain and my shoulder was fixed. Woohoo!

Of course I am still healing and it hurt every day but not as much as it did. The Dr. says that i should be better by the summer if I don't over do it. Not a problem I am just a mother of 3. How could I over do it.

So my plan is to heel my face and call it good for a while with Dr. visits. So send out some prayer for my health. I am in dispirit need of them. I know that is the only reason I made it through the 8 months with my shoulder pain without taking pain medication, and not admitting myself into a psychiatric hospital. Thank you Jesus for you love and hugs.

Our Winter BBQ

This past Sunday Smith Nation had a BBQ in the Snow. WE made a Snowman, we went sledding, had a snow ball fight, 4 wheeler rides and we even roasted marshmallows. It was so nice to get out of the house for a few hours with family and friends.

We welcomed Kimber in to are home February 15th after a 2 1/2 hour drive to meet him. Yes we Smith's are crazy driving a total trip of 6 hours to meet a dog we may take home. I was out numbered in the Smith household vote for a dog 4-1 and I guess they new what was best for Mama of Smith Nation. He is such a good dog. I love him already.

He fits in very well with the family. He may not be Super Man and He may not carry a Sword lor know how to work a hammer. But he has learned to smile like my big girl.

So Smith Nation took a 4 day vacation to Rockwood, Maine. We had a great time with the kid's on the ice, played some games and even had some good rest time in front of the fire place. No cell phones or computers. Just Smith Nation and Nature. Enjoy!

Happy 3rd Birthday Haven

So my little man turned 3 this January. Time just goes by so quick. We started off his big day with A Birthday Breakfast. Pancakes with strawberries and lots of whip cream. We even put a candle on them. As you see in the picture he loved it.

Haven in his new Hot Wheels. He is such a good big brother. He had no problem scooting over and fitting his sister in.

So he wanted a super hero Party. So Mommy made him this cake. Not too shabby.

The big moment his third birthday wish. Happy Birthday Big Guy. Mommy loves you. You are my little Super Man.

I can't believe it's been a year already. We celebrated her birthday last night. Aunt Vicki is the cake maker in the family so I Challenged her to make a doll house. Jazz loves playing with doll houses and little people. Well she did a great job. I think this is the 1st cake I have ever seen a child be able to play with. ISweet baby girl Happy 1st Birthday

If you look close you can see the flower boxes. All the detail was great. Jazzlynn was pointing out the window for us. I am not sure she really wanted to eat it.

I do have to say she didn't really get that messy. Only her face. She is the cleanest eater out of all three kids.

We headed out the Sunday after Thanksgiving and picked out our Christmas Tree. We all had a blast. It was a beautiful day and we walked around for about a hour until we found the tree we wanted. We had all of Smith Nation out and about. We had Gram and Grampy and Auntie Tiff and Uncle Day. And even soon to be Uncle Nick tag along with us. Plus of course All the Smith Nation Kiddos.

9 Months and Crawling and Pictures of the Day

Jazz is crawling. She scooched around on her bum for the longest time. Now she is on the crawl and loving it. They grow so quick. I am so glad to be able to stay home and catch every little thing they do. I am blessed.

We took a little day trip and here are three of my favorite pictures I snapped. I was just lucky to this bird in the picture. I wasn't expecting it to hang around for me but he did.

The whole family went out for a Sunday drive. It was a long ride but it was worth it. We packed a lunch and headed out the door early to enjoy a great autumn day.

So the family headed out to Schoodic Point to watch the wave during high tide. We had such a great time. We finally got a family picture with all of Smith Nation. We enjoyed natures musical waves. I could have curled up into a ball and fell asleep. It was so relaxing.

It's been busy at Smithnation. You know with 3 kid's it can get a little crazy. So we are back!

I had some family come and visit.

Just have been busy enjoying my kids. They are only little for a little while.

So after hiking 2 miles in the deep dark woods and not being sure if we were going in the right direction we stumbled across this sand beach on a lake. NICE!

BELOW: We did find the Ice Cave after we stumbled across a man looking for his dog. Little creepy running into someone out in the middle of no where in a kayak. He said we were heading in the right direction.

A Forest Ranger told us about the Ice Cave and how to get their. He said it was 1 1/2 miles to the cave. Brian's GPS said that the total hike was 5 miles. I think he was off a bit. I guess two mile never hurt anyone.

5 DAYS CAMPING AND HANGING WITH MOOSE

Mount Katahdin- This is the amazing view we enjoy when we wake up and have a nice strong cup of Camp coffee. Brian is going to climb it this summer and I will climb it some day.

We did a few hikes well on our 5 day camping trip. We hiked to a ice cave. It was so cool! I will have pictures soon. Also we hiked a part of Baxter State Park to some water falls called little and Big Niagara.

Little Niagara

This is Big Niagara. It was so beautiful. We went swimming at the foot of Big Niagara. It was so nice to be able to cool off after a very hot Hike. The hike to and from was about 3 miles. It wasn't buggy and the trees protected you from direct sunlight but wow it was so humid.

Bring on The Mountains

We stumbled upon this Wood covered bridge when we were looking for breakfast. We found Vermont 1/2 hour later and didn't eat for another hour after that. Whoops! Apparently they used call them kissing bridges because of of the darkness and privacy they provided. Good luck with that kiss on that one lane bridge. The White Mountains are so amazing I can see why my blogger friend SCAREHAIRCARE loves them so much.

We stopped at this rest stop and it was so pretty. It was called Snow Fall Gorge. The kids loved being able to walk around after 3 hours in the car.

The next day after camping in Jefferson NH we went to the Flume Gorge. This is something you will have to put on your list of things to do before you die. It was so magical. I think this is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen in my 26 years .

So we have been busy this last week. I have lots more pictures of the fun stuff we did and will be posting them soon. Just a few more days and Raine will be getting out of school. I can't wait for her to be home with me and the other kiddos. We will be working on some math and doing a mother/daughter bible study this summer. Other then that we will be going to the beach, camping and hiking. I am so excited.

We went on a hike this weekend and there where so many butterflies on the trail. We finally got a picture of a butterfly. He was not going any where. He likes this location. Can you guess what he is standing on?

It is Coyote poop. Yummy!! We scared it at one point and it flew in a circle and then came right back to the poop. Bon Appetit! Mr. Butterfly

On a more tasteful subject we found wild strawberries. They are sweet and yummy.

We had a great hike at Fort Point State Park. The park had not open for the season yet so we had to park at the gate and hike in. It was a 2 1/2 mile hike to the park and back. We had lunch by the Lighthouse and Haven and Raine rolled down the grassy hills along the old Fort. Jazzie had some belly time on the grass as well.

The tree's are huge at The Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge. The land is so untouched it's beautiful. See haven in the backpack. He was a little wiped from the walk and decided to take a nap on Dad's back.

We were halfway between the Equator and the North Pole.

Whitlocks Mill Light

Location: Calais, Maine

Station established: 1892

Present lighthouse built: 1910

Automated: 1969
Height of tower: 25 feet

Active U.S. Coast Guard aid to navigation. Accessibility: The lighthouse is not open to the public; it is best seen by boat. It can be seen distantly from a roadside picnic area on Route 1
Franklin D. Roosevelt International Memorial Bridge. This Bridge was built in 1962. This bridge Connects Lubec, Maine with Campobello Island, Province New Brunswick .
The Pine that ate the sign. This was during are walk at the Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge at the Baring Division Near Calais, Maine. We walked about 3 miles. It was so beautiful that day. This National Park is about 8,735 acres. Their are tons of hiking trails. They also have places you can fish and hunt. We loved it.

Welcome to Lubec, Maine. The Easternmost town in the u.s. Some day we will go back and watch the sun rise.

Location: Lubec Channel

Station established: 1890

Automated: 1939

Height of tower: 40 feet

The lighthouse is now privately owned, but the light and fog signal remain active U.S. Coast Guard aids to navigation. The lighthouse is not open to the public. It can be seen distantly from shore and is best by boat.

We are standing in front of President Roosevelt's Cottage. Seriously! This is more like a mansion. We only stayed for a quick walk around. We plan to go when the flowers are blooming. I guess the garden is amazing. Their are also a lot of trail on the 2800 acre estate.
East Quoddy Lighthouse

Location: Head Harbour, New Brunswick
Established: 1829
Automated: 1988
Height Of Tower: 51 feet high

The Station is accessible by foot at low tide. The stairs are cast iron and run up and down the rocky cost. We didn't get their during low tide but we plan to go back. We wouldn't bring the kids across because I guess it can be really dangerous. So this will be attempted by adults only.

Jazzlynn was born on December 29th @ 3:37. Labor was great. I would say it was quick and easy. Things happened quick. I won't go into 2 much detail. She is 3 1/2 weeks old now. She has been keeping us all very busy. The Smith house is a little upside down. I haven't even been keeping up on our blog. I hope you let it slide this time.

Jazzlynn is a great sleeper. She wakes up once or twice a night. She did sleep through the night twice already. Her brother wakes me up more then she dose. Jazz doesn't cry when she wakes up ether she just starts sniffing around for her food. It's really cute. She is smiling and talking already. We put a video on of her talking with big Sissy and Mommy on the changing table. Also posted some cute pictures we have taken. Enjoy!

Haven's 2nd Birthday

So Haven has turned 2 year old. Time goes by quick. It seems like I just had him.

We had a few people over and had coffee and cake for his birthday. Daddy and I let him go to Build a Bear Work Shop for his B-Day gift. Haven didn't build a bear instead he built a dog. Haven named his dog Baby Haven. Instead of his dog barking he roars like a dinosaur.

The kids are so happy that their is snow outside. Haven is learning to walk in his boots still. We are picking him up out of the snow every second we are outside. He just flops like a fish trying to get back up. But he love it. Raine is all about building snow forts. She waits for Dad to plow and then uses the banks to set up a snow fort. She also loves to knock down the ice from the house. We did fail to take a picture of what Haven dose most of the time he is in the snow. That would be eating it. We strongly encourage white snow over yellow MMMMMMMMMMMM!

last Friday Brian and I had a ultra sound of baby Jazzlynn because her heart was skipping and my belly was measuring at 32 weeks instead of 36 weeks. The results of the ultra sound say that she is fine. Her heart didn't skip during the ultra sound. And all the images of her heart showed that her heart is working fine. Also they said that I am not measuring right because I am on the low end of normal with amniotic fluid. She is just gong to be a little peanut. She currently weighs 5lbs 1 oz. When she is born the doctor said she will be in the high sixes low sevens. Thank God she is fine!

So this is a ultra sound of Jazzlynn and she refused to move her hand off her mouth. So all you can see is her eyes closed and the bridge of her nose. I guess we will just have to wait to see this little peanut.

Local Boy Scouts Accused of Being Too 'Pro-War'

Today I received an e-mail from my Step Mom about my brother's Boyscout troop in Cambridge MA. They were collecting items for the Soldiers in Iraq, and apparently someone made a complaint that they were being to 'Pro-War'. So the city of Cambridge shut their efforts down. I just have to say "get a life city of Cambridge". Right!

This past Sunday my Mother In-law put together a baby shower for Jazzlynn. It was lots of fun. Not only did I receive tons of the things for the little bundle of joy. I had a great time with my friends and family. Thanks so much for all the beautiful Gifts. All the Fun.All the Love. All the Laughs. It was a blast. Also thank you to all my family from afar that sent me gifts by mail . I miss you all.

P.S I am so blessed to have such great friends and family.

We met up with Nana and Papa at the Elks club for a Halloween Party for Kids. We enjoyed a night of BOBBING FOR APPLES, PUMPKIN PAINTING, FACE PAINTING, AND STUFFING OUR BODIES FULL OF CANDY.
